Getting around

1 Santon Cottages is not ideal if you do not have use of a car. There is a good train network nearby (the nearest station is Drigg) and the train trip is along the stunning coastline. It is a great way to access the nearby town but not an ideal way to arrive unless you have onward plans.

The space

Recently refurbished, this beautiful self-contained apartment is the perfect place for an action packed getaway or a relaxing retreat. The apartment has its own front door and outside garden and was once an old wine cellar for the main house above.

The space

The Living Space contains a fully equipped kitchen area with gas oven and hob, fridge and freezer compartment as well as kettle, microwave and toaster. There is a dining table and large comfy sofa in front of the television and DVD player.

In the bedroom we have a sumptuous king size bed with wardrobe, drawers and dressing table. The bathroom contains a shower cubicle.

Outside is a patio and lawn area, set up with a table and chairs.

Guest access

There is ample parking at the property, shared with the house and another holiday let.

Our ceilings are quite low and we have a beam in the living space- so our place may not be ideal if you are really tall!

Where will you be situated?

Ravenglass is an idyllic, picture postcode village in the Western Lake District. We are situated on the estuary of 3 rivers- the Irt, the Mite and the Esk, and right on the west coast. In fact, Ravenglass is the only coastal village inside the Lake District National Park!

We have the best of both worlds- sea views and beaches but still a stones throw away from some of the UKs most famous peaks and lakes- including Scafell Pile and Wastwater.

The Old wine store has 3 pubs in walking distance, all of which serve great food- just down the hill into the centre of Ravenglass. There are no big shops in the village but there is a small post office. It is only a short drive to small convenience shops and bigger shops are available in Egremont and Whitehaven.

There is plenty to keep you busy in and around Ravenglass. There is the Roman Bath House to see, Muncaster Castle to explore and the La’al Ratty railway to enjoy. Again, these are all within walking distance of The Old Wine Store.
Getting around
Ravenglass has it’s own train station, 5 minutes walk from The Old Wine Store.
If your here for a short stay, there would be no need to bring a car as there is plenty to see and do.

Welcome to The Grove!

This beautiful 3 Bedroom House has recently been refurbished to a high standard. With breathtaking views over Ravenglass Estuary, it is the perfect place for an action-packed getaway or relaxing retreat with friends or family. The house adjoins our own home and has its own front door, outside dining space and sole use of the Swedish hot tub. The area has lots to do and something to suit the whole family. See our other listing for a self-contained apartment at the same property for larger groups.

The space

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we are supporting enhanced cleaning regimes and are re-assuring our guests by hiring in bed linen from a professional company.

Social Distancing is possible at all times, and check-in is contactless via a key safe.

The property has an entrance/dining room to seat 8. There is both a downstairs shower room and an upstairs shower room, both small in size with no bath. There is a cosy lounge with 3 piece suite and log burner. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you should need including a washing machine, dishwasher and tumble dryer. Also a gas cooker and full-size fridge freezer.

Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms. The Master Bedroom has a king-size bed as well as a sofa bed, suitable for 2 additional guests. (There is an additional bedding charge should you wish to use the sofa bed) There is a smaller cosy bedroom, with a small 4ft double bed, and a 3rd double bedroom. We provide bed linen and towels.

Although there isn’t a private enclosed garden, guests have use of a lawned area across the driveway where the wood-fired Swedish hot tub is situated.

You will have sole use of the hot tub during your stay. It is log fired and takes around 2-3 hours to heat from cold. There is also a patio outside the dining room equipped with an outdoor table for your sole use.

There is plenty of parking for your group on our private driveway.

Guest access

We live next door in the main house, but you have sole use of The Grove Holiday Let.

Other things to note

Hot Tub use is permitted until 10pm to prevent disturbance.

Unfortunately, we do not allow dogs at this property and it is unsuitable for assistance dogs as our own dogs are reactive to other dogs.

Welcome To Marshside!

A spacious 4 bedroom house with two sitting rooms, a dining room, a large kitchen and two bathrooms.
In the garden, there is a Summerhouse and a children’s Playhouse.

From the front, there is a beautiful view of the Irish Sea (and on a clear day, the Isle of Man). To the rear, rolling green pastureland (with cows and sheep) and in the distance, the three peaks of Black Combe, Corney Fell and Waberthwaite Fell.
A hidden gem on the Coast of the Lake District National Park!

Where you will be situated

Bootle Station, England, United Kingdom.
The Western Lake District is an area of great diversity and contrasts, with famous lakes, awesome mountains and a dramatic coastline. Home to Britain’s deepest lake, Wast Water (86m metres deep) and England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike (977 metres high).

Much of Western Lake District lies within the Lake District National Park and includes many National Nature Reserves, where, at some, guided walks are available.

Each valley has its own special characteristics, from the austerity of Wasdale to the lush green of Eskdale and the peace of Buttermere Valley. Then of course there is the beautiful Crummock Water and Loweswater.

At the coast, visitors will find busy harbours, award-winning beaches and dramatic cliffs. Situated on the shores of the Solway Firth is Silloth with wide uncrowded beaches and views across the water to the Scottish hills (Due to tides not suitable for swimming). This coastal area has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Down the coast is Maryport, with its Lake District Coast Aquarium and Maritime Museum. A short distance inland is the old market town of Cockermouth, where a market has been held here since 1221 and is also famous as the birthplace of William and Dorothy Wordsworth. Indeed, William Wordsworth visited this beach in 1811!

Closer by are the towns of Ravenglass, with its Roman Bathhouse, and Muncaster with the fantastic Muncaster Castle (which has daily displays of Birds of Prey).

The space

The house is very spacious with gorgeous views from every window. Downstairs, there is a cosy living room complete with a Log Burner, a dining room overlooking the garden and pastures outside, a fully stocked kitchen, a sunroom which takes advantage of the sunrise over the fells, and a utility room with a washer and drier for your convenience. Upstairs are four spacious bedrooms, to the front they look out over the Irish Sea, and to the rear over the rolling greenery. There is a bathroom and a shower room, both with toilets.

The garden to the rear looks out onto the fields, and there is a summer house and a children’s playhouse for your enjoyment.

Guest access

You are booking the whole house, the garden, the summerhouse and the playhouse. You will have exclusive use of all of the above.

Other things to note

Garden, Summer House and Playhouse:

I hope you will enjoy the garden. The cows often come and look over the back garden fence. They are very friendly but can get anxious if your dog gets too close!

There is a stream that runs at the back of the walkway behind the garage. It is fenced but please be aware especially if you have children with you.

Please use the picnic table. It will no doubt need a wipe down as there is evidence for all the local birdlife. There are garden chairs in the summer house for your use. Please return them to the summer house after use

You are very welcome to use the summer house, outside loo and the playhouse. The keys are in the key cupboard in the kitchen. Please supervise children in the playhouse. It has two levels with a ladder to access upstairs. It is used at your own risk.
Please make sure doors for the summerhouse, playhouse and outside loo are closed securely and locked when not in use as it can get very windy here!
